Wine Storage

Summertime is the season of beach trips, amusement parks, and exploring new areas. For the wine lover, it is also a time to explore new vineyards. North Carolina is home to over 200 wineries and vineyards, making it one of the country’s leading largest wine producers. One of the most concentrated areas of wineries in the Tarheel State is the Yadkin Valley Wine Region. The Yadkin Valley wine region is home to close to 50 wineries and vineyards. Below are 5 of those 50 to visit this summer. Self-Storage Tips For College Students

Storage Tips

During the last weeks of April and the early weeks of May every year, college students are studying and taking final exams. Their minds battle between cramming the last bit of molecular biology information and images of beaches, traveling, and internships. One of the least thought-about topics for a college student during this is how he or she will be packing up the dorm room or apartment and store it away for the summer. For parents and students alike, Bee Safe offers 7 helpful tips to store dorm rooms and apartments efficiently in a self-storage unit for the summer. 1. Get the Right Size Unit You do not want to rent a unit that is too small and cannot fit your items – or rent one too big and paying for unneeded space. The following guide is a helpful tool for the right size unit: Dorm Room – 5×5 unit Apartment Room Only – 5×10 – 5×15 Apartment/House – 10×10 2. Find A Buddy Rent a bigger unit and share the unit with a friend or the roommates you will have in the Fall. It will be cost efficient and easier to move everyone from 1 unit when you return at the end of summer. 3. Clean Dishes, Appliances, and Linens Moving day can creep up a college student. Even if you wake up on moving day having not had packed at all, make sure to clean any dirty dishes, de-frost and wipe dry any mini fridges, and wash any bed sheets you will be storing. Mold can begin growing on dirty appliances and linens and dirty dishes can attract all kids of bugs and rodents. The last thing you need when you move into a new dorm or apartment is to have throw out everything you had stored. 4. Use Different Box sizes for Different Items Use smaller boxes for heavier items, like the books you did not sell back or your Instapot. Use larger boxes for any pillows, blankets, and lampshades. Separate items and label the boxes so it ...

Holiday Decor Storing Tips

Storing Tips

The Fall and Winter months bring pumpkin spice, flannel, family-friendly movies, and parades. They also bring about the most decorated holidays. As you are changing your house from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas and back again, here are a few tips on how to store all your decorations. Use Plenty of Boxes and Totes – and Label Them! Use boxes and totes of all sizes to store lights, costumes, exterior and interior decorations. If you lean more toward the plastic totes, many stores such as Walmart and Target have color coded totes for each season. Store Halloween decorations in orange and black totes and Christmas in red and green. Most important is to label each box and tote…and be specific. You do not want to unpack the blue Christmas lights during Halloween set up! Pack Breakables and Ornaments Separately There can be multiple breakable decorations used during these holidays: snow globes, ornaments, a porcelain pumpkin. It is recommended to store these breakables individually. Originally intended for glasses, a dish pack box is the perfect box to store individual breakables because the box has separators within. These boxes are sold at every Bee Safe Storage location. Wrap Large and Tall Decorations and Trees To save on storage space and boxes, instead of taking down your artificial tree every year, try wrapping the tree in plastic wrap and stand a rolling cart for easy transport. Plastic wrap can be bought from every Bee Safe Storage location. Take Inventory Every Season When taking decorations down, take inventory of what you have. How many plastic Halloween candy buckets? Do you need more white lights to complete the Clark Griswold look next Christmas? Throw out any light strands that do not work and any broken decorations. If you have not used the plush turkey your great aunt sent you 5 Thanksgivings ago, donate it. Find a Safe and Secure Storage Area Finally, find a safe, open, and secure storage area. Garages, attics, and backyard sheds fill up too quickly with other items during the year ...

Essentials to Starting A Wine Collection

Wine Storage

Wine collecting has become a popular hobby in the last several years. Statistics from Live-Ex show investment type wines, bottles that are listed at $25 and above, have aged better than most equity and fixed-income indexes. Some wine collectors get into the hobby purely for investment purposes while others love wine and want to hold onto bottles they pick up at various wineries. Why should you have a wine collection? If you call yourself a vino enthusiast, love to frequent local wineries and wine bars, turning your interest into a hobby may be perfect for you. If you want to begin your vino collection, here are a few steps to begin with. Begin Your Collection with What You Like. Wine collecting sounds like it could get confusing fast. However, there is no need to jump into the wines and blends that you have no idea what they are or even how to pronounce the names. If you’re a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, start off your collection with various Cabs from different wineries and different vintages. If you enjoy a fruitier wine, get a collection started with Zinfandels, Pinot Grigio, and other fruity wines. You want your wine collection to reflect you, so you do you! Set a Budget – You Don’t Have to Break the Bank! Set a monthly or annual budget as you begin to collect your wines. You may want to start off with bottles coming only from your favorite wineries, or a local region even. Investment or collection- type wines are considered bottles that are $25 and up, which are easily found in local wine shops. There is no need to dive deep and purchase a $1,000 bottle on your first buy. Set a budget and ease into it. Keep Track of Your Collection. It is good practice to document your wines; where you purchased a bottle, when, from whom, and what was the price. It is also good practice to have your collection appraised annually by a certified wine appraiser, someone who can ...

Tips to Bee Safe While Moving During a Pandemic

Moving Tips

Packing and moving has always been a stressful process. Trying to move during the COVID-19 pandemic when much of the country is still on lock down? That is problematic to say the least. If you have to pack up and move during the pandemic, we have a few tips that may help you and your things stay safe and clean. Make sure moving is allowed in your area, building, and town. Moving and storage has been deemed an essential business during the pandemic but always check the local guidelines and any HOA or apartment guidelines. If you are moving to a different state, check into the state’s guidelines regarding any self-quarantine and what phase of reopening the state may currently be in. Carefully choose your movers. If you are hiring a moving company, ask them what their process is to keep your items clean during the move. If you are moving on your own, do not involve more people than necessary and remember to avoid gatherings of 10 or more people during the move. Use new boxes. Typically when someone moves, he or she can find used boxes at liquor stores, grocery stores, and even Craigslist. Others will use plastic bins bought at Walmart, Target, or Home Depot. In the age of the COVID pandemic however, it is better to purchase brand new boxes you can pack yourself and then discard after unpacking. You can purchase new boxes, tape, and other moving supplies at any of the 19 Bee Safe locations. Wipe Down Your moving boxes and furniture post-move in. After you have moved in, take the necessary steps to wipe down your boxes and furniture, especially if you have had outside help with your move. Have patience. It may take longer than normal for your realtor, landlord, or property manager to be on-site to deliver the keys to you. The internet technician may be backed up with customers or may not be working as many hours he typically would be. This pandemic calls for patience, especially when moving. Use self-storage. Do ...
